ALBERT MAYO

Albert Earl Mayo passed away unexpectedly on May 31, 2023. He was 76 years old. Earl was born in Dallas, TX to Logan Wright Mayo and Lucile Davis Mayo on February 23, 1947. He grew up in Dallas, attended Woodrow Wilson High School and University of Texas Austin where he received a B.S. in Business Administration. He had a successful career with Sears Roebuck and Co. for 31 years as a Financial Manager and then as COO for Ulta.com in Chicago, where he helped launch the dot com business. He retired and dedicated his time to his family and beloved ranch in Texas. Earl was always interested in commerce; he had his first paper route when he was 9 years old and purchased his first stocks with the money he earned on that route.

In addition to his interest in money management, in his younger life, Earl enjoyed fishing, hunting, sports including baseball, football, and golf, as well as spending time in the great outdoors. The Triangle M ranch was started by his father, Logan, in 1951 and became a source of great joy for the family. Earl spent much of his life learning about agriculture and tending to the pecan orchard that he and his Dad started. The ranch meant a great deal to him and became a gathering place for family, where he would spend decades teaching his children and grandchildren how to drive in the pastures, feed the cows, fish, shoot, and build bonfires. Earl was beloved by all who knew him and had an incredible wealth of knowledge. He was always willing to help someone in need or offer comfort.

He was known for his “Dad jokes” later in adulthood, but he always had a great sense of humor that entertained and delighted anyone he met. His greatest joy in life was his family. He dedicated his life to them and enjoyed as much time as he could with his grandchildren. He traveled the world with his wife, daughters, and dear friends. He met and married the love of his life, Susann Calvert Mayo, in Chicago where they lived for over 20 years before moving back to Texas. They were married for 38 years. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother Logan Wayne Mayo, and beloved grandparents.

He is survived by his wife Susann; his sister-in-law Ginger Mayo; his daughter Tracy Matthews, her husband Jeff, and their children Stuart and Penny; his daughter Kimberly and her husband Andy, and their children Ella and Ian; his daughter Kristen Coffman and her husband Steven, and their children Cora and Kate; his daughter Amanda Mayo and fiancé Matthew McGrane, and children Leo and Axel. His favorite food was ice cream. A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church 401 N. Elm St. in Sherman, TX on Saturday, June 10th at 10am. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to First United Methodist Church or the charity of your choice.
