1934-2023
Hazel Lucille (Joyce) Adams passed away on May 3, 2023 in Jacksonville, FL. On the night she left us she saw sparkly lights and waved at loved ones beyond the ceiling, then she went to sleep. She was 88 years old. Hazel and her husband of 64 years, Bob (Robert H. Adams 1922-2015) had 5 children: Deborah Lynn Womack of Ft. Worth, TX, Janet Maye Adams of Jacksonville, FL, Betty Lucinda Adams of AZ, Howard Gary Adams and Laura Joyce Adams, both of Jacksonville, FL. They had 12 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and 2 greatgreat grandchildren, as well as beloved nieces and nephews. Hazel is survived by her sister, Rachel (Joyce) Smith of Wichita Falls, TX. Hazel was born May 20, 1934 in Waxahachie, TX to Colonel Albert Joyce and Nettie ‘Gertrude’ Snow (Church) Joyce, both of Columbia, TN.
In 1950 Lubbock, TX she married Bob Adams and they soon moved to Southern California, which was the beginning of a fairly nomadic lifestyle. Before long the young family lived in a cabin on 60 acres in Klamath Falls, OR. Bob was a hardworking man, a dreamer and a poet. Hazel was his biggest fan and supporter. She kept the home fires burning with good humor and grace when he was in the mountains panning for gold, if she wasn’t with him.
Over the course of their lives together they moved from one coast to the other, as they collected varied and rich life experiences. In 1973 Hazel earned a degree at Cerro Coso Community College, Ridgecrest, CA, and attended Grayson College, Denison, TX in 1975. Hazel had a warm and friendly smile for everyone she met. Hazel, along with her husband Bob, will be interred at the Kemp Cemetery, OK, at 1:00 pm on Sunday, June 18, 2023, which will be followed by a dual memorial gathering at the Chickasaw Nation Community Center in Achille, OK.
