BEVERLY JANE TUCKER MCGUIRE

1942-2023

Beverly Jane Tucker McGuire, 80, of Sherman beloved wife and Pre-K teacher, sister, sister-in-law and friend to all, went peacefully to that special place in Heaven for the greatest teachers. Jane passed into the hands of our Lord, after a long battle with out of balance brain chemistry, holding hands with her loving husband, Brady on Sunday March 19, 2023.

Jane was born on July 24, 1942, in Monroe, Louisiana to Leroy Tucker and Lottie Collins Tucker. Jane grew up in northwest Louisiana where she attended Caddo Parish elementary schools. With a family move to Jackson, Mississippi, Jane graduated from Provine High School in 1960. Jane earned her Bachelor Degree in Elementary Education from Northeast Louisiana State College (now known as University of Louisiana – Monroe) in 1964 and her Master’s Degree from Louisiana Tech in 1968. She met her future husband Brady in New Orleans in 1968 and they were married on July 3, 1971 in Atlanta, Georgia.

The newlyweds honeymooned in the Smoky Mountains and settled into married life in Jackson, Tennessee where Jane taught first grade and Brady was a construction and start up mechanical engineer. The couple relocated to Cincinnati, Ohio in 1975 and then to Sherman, Texas in 1987.

During Jane’s 40 year plus teaching career she taught in 5 states, Louisiana, Georgia, Tennessee, Ohio and Texas. The last 24 years with The Sherman ISD, teaching either First Grade, Kindergarten or Pre-K (her favorite) at Washington, Jefferson and the Fred Douglass Early Childhood Center. Jane retired from SISD in 2013 at age 71 so that she and Brady could travel far and wide. And travel they did. They traveled our country east to west, north to south, visiting most of our country’s National Parks, Civil War Sites, Alaska, Hawaii, Canada, Ireland, Scotland, the Danube River and Costa Rica.

Jane was very active in the local Sherman educational community and mentored many of her former students through their turbulent teenage years. Her favorite hobbies were playing bridge, working crossword puzzles and cryptoquotes from the daily newspaper and just relaxing reading a fine novel.

In 2010, Jane was honored as a “Circle of Success Teacher” by then high school senior student Rudy Reynoso. Jane was well pleased to be so recognized as Rudy’s PreK teacher after so many years. Jane was preceded in death by her parents, Brady’s parents and three in-laws on Brady’s side of the family. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, her brother Hugh Tucker, Monroe, LA and her nephew Colton Tucker of New Orleans, 6 in-laws on Brady’s side of the family and hundreds of friends and acquaintances. Per her wishes the memorial service will be private. Her ashes will reside in state till which time they are mixed with Brady’s ashes, their wedding bands inter linked and then together their ashes will be interred in her family’s plot in Monroe, Louisiana. Brady, her brother, her six in-laws and her many friends wish to thank the wonderful kind nurses at Wilson N. Jones Hospital, Heart to Heart Hospice Care, Darlene Schroeder’s Professional Caregivers. Those that knew and loved Jane will miss her bubbling “Energizer Bunny” personality, her beautiful heart, and her love for all, especially her husband Brady and the hundreds of little children that passed her way each of her 40 plus years of teaching.
