Johnnie Lee Cordell

Johnnie Lee Cordell, longt ime resident of Moore, Oklahoma, passed away from this life on December 29, 2022, at the age of 84. Johnnie was born in Tom Bean, Texas, on June 18, 1938, the daughter of J.W. Calhoun and Mary Onetta (Smith) Calhoun. Johnnie moved to Oklahoma from Sherman, Texas on August 14, 1971, after her husband was transferred to Tinker Air Force Base. She was a bus driver for the Moore Public School system, a career she was thoroughly dedicated to for 33 years. She had previously worked for T.I. during her time in Sherman. Johnnie was a loving, caring person who was dedicated to her family.

She was quite strong-willed, some might even say she had a stubborn streak, but she always had a softer side when it came to her family. She always provided well for them and made sure her loved ones were safe, comfortable, and happy. She loved to read and had an impressive collection of paperback romance novels, and she especially enjoyed the work of Debbie Macomber. You could often find Johnnie relaxing with a book in her hands, or watching her favorite teams play ball she loved keeping up with Texas Rangers baseball, as well as OKC Thunder basketball, the Dallas Cowboys, and OSU and Texas football. More than anything, Johnnie enjoyed time spent with her family, all of whom she cherished.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, greatgrandmother, sister, and friend, and she will be dearly missed. Johnnie is preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Jefferson Timothy Cordell, her father, J.W. Calhoun, her mother, Mary Onetta, and a brother-inlaw, John Weeks. Left to treasure her memory are her three children, James Cordell and his wife Debbie, Charlotte Mullins, and Wesley Cordell; four grandchildren, Christopher Mullins and his wife Kelli, Amanda Parker and her husband Harvey Lynn, Caleb Howard, and Hanna Haffner and her husband John; along with six greatgrandchildren, one sister, Alice O’Dean Weeks, and many loving nieces, nephews, family members, and friends. Funeral services will be held 11am Thursday, January 5, at Waldo Funeral Home Chapel.
