With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Jessie Marie Oliver (Thompson). She joined her heavenly father on December 1, 2022, in Sherman, Texas. She was born to her father, Barnie Floyd Thompson, and her mother, Vera Ruth Thompson (Langston), on August 13, 1927, in Melissa, Texas. Jessie was one of five children born to the Thompson family.

Jessie graduated from McKinney High School, where she was a star basketball player. Not long after she graduated, she embarked on a trip to Arizona. As she boarded the greyhound bus for the long ride home, a young marine offered her a seat. Raymond Glenn Oliver was on his way home that day as well. To their amazement, they both fell head over heels, and the two said I do on May 9, 1950, in Irving, Texas.

Jessie and Raymond began their family in McKinney, Texas. They had three sons, Richard, Jacky, and Tony. After moving the family from McKinney, Texas, to Celina, Texas then a short time in Denison, Texas, they planted roots in Pottsboro, Texas.

Jessie volunteered at the local Resale Barn and Wilson and Jones Hospital in Sherman, Texas, caring for her elders with Alzheimer’s Disease. After the couple retired, they would spend winter in Port Aransas. Unfortunately, that is where Jessie lost the love of her life. Raymond passed away on January 9, 2006, while out enjoying a day on the boat fishing. Jessie is preceded in death by her parents, Barnie Floyd Thompson and Vera Ruth Thompson (Langston), sister Elsie Bell, two brothers and husband, Raymond Glenn Oliver.

Jessie leaves behind her three sons Richard and wife Leda, Jacky and wife Beverly, Tony and wife Jan 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, sister Betty Whitmore, and many other family members, friends, and loved ones that will truly miss her wisdom and unconditional love she showed to everyone that crossed her path.

Services will be held on Thursday, December 15, 2022 at Lakeway United Methodist Church in Pottsboro, Texas, Texas, 2:00 pm. Condolences can be registered at www.fisherfh.com
