John N. (Nick) Keating
III passed away on October 26th, 2022, at the age of 80 surrounded by his family. Nick was born to the parentage of John N. “Jack” Keating Jr. and Frances E (Steele) Keating on Dec. 5, 1941 in Oklahoma City, Ok.
After graduating from University of Tulsa, Nick went to work for Sinclair Oil & Gas in Tulsa. After Sinclair merged with Atlantic Richfield, Nick moved to Dallas and worked with Arco Oil & Gas Co. in various accounting departments. In 1994 Nick married Sue Ann Stewart of Sherman and soon became employed with the Texas Department of Human Services where he worked until he retired in 2006. After retirement, Nick took up golf after encouragement from several friends. In addition to golf, Nick became involved in community activities, including Keep Sherman Beautiful Commission, Friends of the Sherman Public Library, Sherman Community Players, Sherman Library Advisory Board, Sherman Museum and as Dough Boy with the First United Methodist Church. He became interested in baking bread and continued to bake many loaves for family and friends until he passed. Nick loved traveling, learning, and brought joy and laughter to all he met. Nick is survived by his wife, Sue, children Lance Keating (Steffanye) of Rowlett, TX, Blake Keating (Stephanie) of Abilene, TX, Clay Stewart (Joanna) of Las Vegas, NV, and Claire Bray (Brian) of Nacogdoches, Tx; grandchildren Madyson, Hunter and Mayce Keating of Rowlett, TX, Kristopher Keating and Zachary Pickens of Abilene, TX, Pam Mahan of Burleson, TX, Evan and Ethan Stewart of Graham, TX., Julia and Audrey Bray of Nacogdoches, TX and great-grandson Wesley Keating of Rowlett, TX. Nick is also survived by his sister Mary Frances Fulton (Jim) of Chesterfield, MO, and numerous cousins and nieces. Memorial services will be Saturday, November 12th, at 10:00 AM at First United Methodist Church in Sherman, Texas. Arrangements are through Waldo Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First United Methodist Church, Sherman, Texas.
