Quail hunters in Texas are singing the blues heading into this weekend’s Oct. 29th season opener since bobwhite quail like the one above are in short supply across much of the Lone Star State. On the positive side of the 2022-23 preseason outlook from TPWD biologists, the number of scaled quail—or blue quail as the species is commonly known—have risen significantly since last year in the state’s Trans Pecos region lying in between Midland/Odessa and El Paso.
