Born to Wilbur and Loretta Lehner on February 22, 1939, he spent h i s childhood in Quincy, Illinois with his sister, Sally before joining the Air Force after graduating high school. He was stationed at Perrin AFB outside of Denison, Texas where he met and married his wife of 61 years, Sandra Lehner. Following his time in the military he went on to enjoy a career with Continental Airlines, moving his family to Denver, Colorado and then to El Segundo, California before returning to Texas. While in Texas, Max sold insurance and opened L&M homes, a home building business, he also sold real estate with his wife in Round Rock. Max was a lifelong enjoyer of the outdoors and loved hunting and fishing with his kids. Duck hunting was a particular enjoyment for him, as a teenager he could often be found making his own duck calls and fishing lures. He loved to play golf and enjoyed years of watching his grandchildren play sports. Gardening and working in the yard were also a passion of his, growing everything from flowers and vegetables to grapes and a large variety of fruit trees. He loved to make wine, preserve fruits, and cook, he had many signature dishes, but a family favorite was his homemade noodles. Like his father, Max loved to paint and work around the house, a testament to his self-reliance, being the type of man who would choose to repair something over buying new. Max was a selfless and honest man, loving but fair, and always willing to help anyone who needed it, family or friend. Max was a family man, our leader, teacher, friend, and a mentor to many. His happiest times were spent with his family. Max’s extended family was a large part of his life and he accepted and loved all of them unconditionally. He held a special place in his heart for all of the children in the family and never let one get away without a hug.
