Texas. Mr. Oates was born August 8, 1931, in Groom,

Texas, the son of Tom and Nydia (Roberts) Oates. Tommy served his country proudly in the U. S. Navy. He married the love of his life, Willadene Mitchell Oates, November 9th, 1957 in Eula, Texas. Tommy was a very skilled welder, and worked 35 years for Reedrill, before retiring. He was an active member in American Legion. Although his passing leaves a void in all our lives, he will live on forever in our hearts. Mr. Oates leaves behind his son, Roy Oates and his wife Martie, of Sherman. Derethia Spradlin and her husband Tracy of McKinney, and son Rex Oates of Denison, his brother James Oates and his wife Jackie of Abilene. Grandchildren Michael Oates and his wife Ashley, Ryan Spradlin, Amanda Gibson and her husband Grant, Matthew Spradlin, and Loren Gomez and husband Arturo. Great-grandchildren, Garrett and Christopher Gibson, and Zachary, Liam, and baby girl Gomez; numerous cousins, and friends. Tommy was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and a baby sister Linda Marylyn Oates. Funeral service for Mr. Oates will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 13, 2022, at Fisher Funeral Chapel with Minister Jerry Newton officiating. Interment will follow in Cedarlawn Memorial Park in Sherman. Family and friends will gather to visit from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday, prior to service time. Pallbearers will be Matt Spradlin, Michael Oates, Grant Gibson, Arturo Gomez, and Tracey Spradlin.
