The family of Janis Ann Steele Fletcher announces with great sorrow her passing on Sunday, August 7, 2022. Even though there is grieving, there is also great comfort in knowing that Janis is with her Lord and Savior.
Janis was born to Lee and Bonnie Steele in Greenville, Tx, on August 11, 1956. She attended Greenville High School, where she was an active member of the Greenville Flaming Flashes Drill Team.
After high school, Janis married James David Fletcher on October 8th, 1976. Soon after marrying, they settled in Sherman, Tx and had two children: a daughter Ashley LeAnne and a son Kane David.
Janis worked several years at her in-home daycare, which allowed her time to devote herself to being a loving stay-at-home mother to her young children. She then gave many years of service as a para-professional for Sherman ISD. Most recently, Janis served as a Municipal Court Coordinator for the City of Sherman, Tx. In addition to her career, Janis selflessly gave her time to various charitable organizations. She was especially passionate about educating and supporting women and their families through the journey of a breast cancer diagnosis. In every role of her life, you could count on Janis to be a quiet leader, with a kind smile, a generous spirit, and a servant’s heart.
Janis enjoyed working in her garden, traveling with her husband, and watching her grandsons play sports. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and Nana.
Janis was preceded in death by her son, Kane David Fletcher, her father, Lee Steele, her mother, Bonnie Walker Steele, her father-in-law, James Fletcher, her mother-in-law, Dixie Fletcher, her brother Kenneth Steele, her brother-in-law Mike Starkey, and her beloved Uncle Olan and Aunt Margie Steele.
Janis left behind her husband, James David Fletcher of Sherman, Tx, her daughter Ashley and son-in-law Josh Gurski and their two sons Hartmann and Truman of Gunter, Tx, brother Gary Steele and wife Susy of Fredericksburg, Tx, sister-in-law Nancy Starkey of Kilgore, Tx, along with other family members and many friends that will miss her dearly.
Family visitation will be held on Friday, August 12, 2022 at Waldo Funeral Home in Sherman, Tx from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. A graveside service will follow at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 13, 2022, at Friendship Cemetery in Sherman, Texas.
