Royce Adelle Walthall Christman entered into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on July 28 surrounded by her family at the age of 79. Royce Adelle was born on March 2, 1943, in Bellmead, TX to Roy Dell Walthall Jr and Alma Walthall.
In the summer of 1960 between her junior and senior year of high school, Royce Adelle’s parents moved the family to Denison, Texas. There at the checkout counter of Piggly Wiggly she met the love of her life Tommy Christman who, seeing the sweet girl he would one day marry, went out of his way to carry her loaf of bread to the car. She accepted his senior ring after the prom and the rest became history. They married on April 28, 1962. They lived in Maryland briefly while Tommy served in the United States Army before settling back in Texas. Having two children, they lived in the Dallas area for several years before coming back up to Sherman/ Denison where they have lived consecutively for the past 24 years. In addition to being a loving mother, Royce Adelle
In addition to being a loving mother, Royce Adelle utilized her excellent secretarial skills while employed at Grayson County College in various capacities. She and Tom were very active at Grace Bible Church. She enjoyed greeting new people and making them feel welcome. She had a knack for being able to strike up a conversation with complete strangers. She wasn’t afraid to approach anyone whether it be someone in line at the grocery store or the Palestinian Guard on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem because her daughter asked her to get a photo with him. She got the photo. She also enjoyed sewing and making crafts. When her attempts didn’t exactly look like she planned, she met her family’s ribbing with her own laughter and asked that when her time had come to pass from this life that we have etched into her gravestone “she tried”.
After retirement Adelle and Tom enjoyed their passion of travel. They had a motorhome and with their three small dogs, traveled the country full time, stopping off in Sherman to visit their grandchildren between adventures. With Adelle’s talent of meeting new people, they met countless lifelong friends from all over the country.
Adelle is rejoined in heaven with her son Tommy Christman, Jr, her sisters Joann Bowden and Ellen Carver, as well as her parents. Royce Adelle did not fear death and joyfully anticipated the day she would be reunited with her son.
Royce Adelle is survived by her husband of 60 years Tom Christman, her daughter Cheryl Troxtell Mauk and husband Stephen, her grandson Adam Troxtell and his wife Christina, granddaughter Andrea Troxtell, brother Roy Dell Walthall III and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and very dear friends.
