Allene Brown Eatherl

Allene Brown Eatherly of Van Alstyne, age 101, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, May 10, 2022, with her family by her side.

She was born to John Cecil and Mattie Elizabeth Morrison Brown on October 20, 1920, in the Pink Hill Community of Bells, Texas. After graduating from Bells High School, she received her B.A. degree in 1942 from Austin College. Allene worked for the Sherman Retail Merchants Association and later for the American Optical Company of Sherman.

Allene married Joe Eatherly on December 11, 1945, in Sherman, Texas. Allene and Joe moved to Van Alstyne in 1953, where Allene worked with her husband who was a wholesale distributor for Humble Oil and Refining Company, which was later known as Exxon.

Allene was a member of Van Alstyne First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and was a longtime member of the Fidelis Sunday School Class. She was a member of the Leah Elliott Chapter No.1119 Order of the Eastern Star and the Jonathan Hardin Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution. After retiring from Exxon, Allene and Joe enjoyed traveling with a group of their Austin College friends, making several trips to Europe. They also enjoyed spending time each summer in Colorado.

Allene is survived by her daughter Aleece and husband Michael McBay of Groesbeck, son Joe Dan Eatherly of Forney, grandchildren Alison Teelock and husband Ranjeev, Christopher McBay and wife Meagan, Justin Eatherly and wife Bethany, and Joshua Eatherly, nieces Gwen Brown Clark, Rebecca Brown Watrud and husband Don, nephews David Brown and wife Erica, Russell Coleman and wife Betty, great grandchildren Reece Teelock, Jett, Judson, and Jameson Eatherly, and Oliver McBay.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Eatherly, parents, brothers Forrest Brown and Roy Brown, sisters Irene Holcomb and Marie Coleman and nephews Cyrus and Randall Coleman.

Visitation will be 1:00 3:00 p.m. A private family burial will be held at Van Alstyne Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Joe Dan Eatherly, Michael McBay, Ranjeev Teelock, Christopher McBay, Justin Eatherly, and Joshua Eatherly.
