CHC announces new $400 million hospital in Sherman

As Texoma continues to grow with new residents and businesses, a new hospital could help meet the growing medical needs of the region. Plano-based Community Hospital Corporation announced plans Tuesday to open a $400 million acute care hospital in West Sherman that could add new medical capacity, providers and other resources to the region’s growing medical community.

Construction on the facility is expected to begin in early 2026 with an expected opening date in early 2028.

“We are thrilled to lead the development of the new Heritage Regional Medical Center,” said CHC President and CEO Jim Kendrick. “Our mission is to serve Sherman and the surrounding communities with excellence and compassion, bringing high quality, technologically advanced care to area patients.”

Plans for the acute care hospital include 100 inpatient beds with space to support expansion over time for an additional 200 beds. Initial services for the hospital include surgery, imaging, and emergency and outpatient services, among others. The hospital expected to employ over 400 employees in the first phase of development with the potential to employ 1,000 at full buildout.

Heritage Regional Medical Center will be led by Ron Seal as the new chief executive officer. Seal previously worked as the CEO of Texoma Medical Center but left the hospital about two years ago.

“We are excited to have Ron at the helm of this new organization, aligning skilled medical staff and building a talented, compassionate employee base,” Kendrick said.

A new hospital has been a long-term goal for the city of Sherman with a prospective site in South Sherman in and near the Sherman Crossroads development. Recent development plans for Sherman Crossroads include a lot labeled for possible hospital development.

However, Heritage Regional Medical Center will be built near the intersection of US Highway 82 and FM 1417 in the Heritage Ranch planned development.

Representatives for the project thanked community partners that made the project possible, including the city of Sherman, Grayson County, area tribal nations, the WNJ Health Foundation and Texoma Community Foundation, among other partners. The hospital is expected to have serve not only Sherman but also areas across Texoma and southern Oklahoma.
