SOUTHMAYD – On Thursday, July 3, 2025, at approximately 12:30 p.m., officers from the Southmayd Police Department were dispatched to a report of a reckless driver. The caller reported a vehicle driving through ditches within the city limits.
Chief Laughlin and Lieutenant Aguirre responded to the scene and located the suspect vehicle stopped in the middle of the roadway in the 200 block of McElroy Street. Upon making contact with the driver, officers observed several signs of intoxication, including difficulty walking, slurred speech, and the odor of alcohol. An open container of alcohol was also found inside the vehicle.
The driver underwent standardized field sobriety tests, which showed he was intoxicated. He was placed under arrest for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI). Through further investigation, it was determined that this arrest marked the fourth DWI offense for the individual.
The suspect was transported to Sherman Medical Center for a mandatory blood draw and was later booked into the Grayson County Jail. He is being charged with Driving While Intoxicated – Third or More Offense, a felony under Texas law.
