The Ike's History Festival will take place Sept. 5-7 at Eisenhower Birthplace State Historic Site in Denison. Events will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.

Earlier this week, my co-worker and good friend Jerrie Whiteley bemoaned the dog days of summer and everything that August brings with it. I won't deny that we are in the hottest days of summer, but at the risk of jinxing everyone, I can't help but wonder where this summer went.

In the wake of the 10-year anniversary of Michael Brown’s death, it’s time to confront the elephant in the room and pass laws that might begin to address the violence involved in a growing number of police arrests in America. Currently, both law enforcement and suspects are at risk to be injured or killed when police attempt an arrest or traffic stop. Recently, body-worn cameras were mandated to accurately record interactions between police and suspects. They help to separate fact from fiction and provide more insight into accurately evaluating the actions of all parties involved in a police action.
