Sherman-Denison sees slight decrease in unemployment
Sherman and Denison continued a trend of being a job-seeker's market in July as the area unemployment rate saw a slight decrease, the Texas Workforce Commission reported last week in its monthly jobs report. The latest update saw the local unemployment rate drop to 4.1 percent — a decrease of 0.1 percent — for Sherman and Denison, placing it below both the state and national unemployment rates.

September special election just weeks away
The last day to register to vote in the September special election to be held by the city of Sherman was last week. The election will be held Sept. 14.
TxDOT gives school zone warning, road construction reports
In 2023, there were 748 traffic crashes in Texas school zones, resulting in one death and 14 serious injuries. The most common crash causes were speeding, distracted driving and failure to yield the right of way.
Kidz Krew Open Auditions for "To Be Frank(enstein)"
The Creative Arts Center in Bonham is excited to announce a second Kidz Krew production this year. Open auditions will be held on August 28 from 4-6 p.m. for the Kidz Krew production of “To Be Frank(enstein).” This play was written by Lisa Avila, former director of Kidz Krew and the Creative Arts Center.

Texoma Mental Health Symposium slated for September
Aging experts from across the state will be offering a specialized program about mental health as we age. The Texoma Area Agency on Aging at TCOG, United Health Care, and the Sherman Senior Center are teaming up to host a free event for the public.

Denison man gets 35 years for continuous sex abuse of a child under 14
A Denison man will spend the next 35 years behind bars for continuous sex abuse of a child under 14 and indecency with a child by sexual contact. A news release from the Grayson County District Attorney's Office said the sentencing follows a guilty plea.
