Saving Milkweed

The mounds of boards, insulation, debris and branches from the Japanese Peace Garden have disappeared from where they were piled along Airport Drive. Only black plastic sacks remain. For the most part, the garden now has to heal itself. Trees are producing new leaves on damaged wood. Several of the grounded redcedars are still alive. I would leave them to see what happens during the summer. The root disks in the air still offer protection from the wind! A strange windbreak indeed.

1970-2023 David Andrew Loy, known to friends and family as Dave, passed away on April 28, 2023, at the age of 53 in Austin, Texas. Born on March 13, 1970, in Sherman, Texas, Dave was a man of many talents and a heart full of kindness.

Sherman P&Z denied permits for partially-built carport

The Sherman Planning and Zoning Commission voted unanimously to deny variances for a carport that had already been partially built without a build permit. Applicants for the project said that the carport was necessary not only to keep their vehicles safe, but also to keep their home safe due to unsafe traffic conditions surrounding their home.

Fingers and toes turn blue, become numb when cold

DEAR DR. ROACH: I’m an 83-year-old male. I eat a plant-based diet, and I exercise at my local YMCA at least three times a week. I’m concerned that my toes and fingers will turn blue daily, in response to getting cold. My fingertips also become numb. -- W.H.
