CHARLES WILLIAM ”CHUCK CHAMBERS

Charles William “Chuck” Chambers sauntered into the great beyond on March 24, 2023 at age 74 in Sherman, Texas. He is survived by his significant other, Sharon Koper of 24 years and preceded in death by parents W.C. “Dub” “Pop” Chambers and Gwendolyn “Mimi” Chambers. Also survived by his children: Carrie Abbott-Chambers & Jason Abbott, Rebecca Chambers, Charles “Jake” Chambers & Christa Harp, Rachel Chambers, John McWilliams & Lana McWilliams’; Sister: Kyla Hernandez & Jesse Hernandez’; Nieces: Jennifer Lloyd, Amanda Jackson; Grandchildren: Cash Chambers, Luke Childress, Sarah Childress, Roman Northcutt, Logan Harp, Nikki Harp, Christian Harp, Drake McWilliams, and Kane McWilliams; Grand nieces and nephews: Jordon, Lily, Sadie, Nathaniel, Ariel, Sebastian and Mika. Chuck’s story began in Olney Texas on May 21st 1948. He attended schools in Olney, Texas then, later, worked in the Texas oil fields as a roughneck learning the valuable lesson of what it means to work hard. In 1968 Chuck volunteered and joined the United States Marine Corp proudly serving his country for 15+ years. In the Corp he served two tours in Vietnam. He returned stateside remaining in active duty at Weymouth, MA where he married the mother of his four children, Wendie Levings. From MA he was transferred to the Marine Corps base at Parris Island SC where as a Gunnery Sergeant he mentored new recruits....“Sempre Fi”! Stepping down from active duty, Chuck moved back to his native Texas planting roots for his family in the community of Whitesboro near his parent’s farm in Sandusky. As a volunteer for the City of Whitesboro Fire Department he spent years protecting his community and served for a time as Chief of the department. Chuck was an involved member of the community as little league coach and involved in Scouts. His longterm career was with Texas Instruments and, while working there, earned a bachelor’s degree in Drafting/ Engineering from Texas A&M. Moving to

Finding the next steps after continuous low iron diagnoses

Dear Dr. Roach: My mother is 82. About two years ago, she was diagnosed with low iron. All tests came back negative. She can’t tolerate an iron infusion and is allergic to iron pills and/or vitamins with iron. She eats foods that are high in iron, like liver, and drinks a little bit of red wine. Her score was 41 mcg/dL, which is a little bit higher then it was last year. She gets tired easily now, but my mother has always been a very energetic, active person. What else can be done?
