Lawmakers must defeat clean energy attacks, protect Texans

It’s no wonder so many Texas lawmakers back the polluting oil and gas industry — its geysers of cash bankroll political campaigns and a state budget that relies on fossil fuels. It’s harder to understand why legislators who pledge their allegiance to free market principles are trying to cripple a thriving Texas clean energy industry that creates jobs, reduces electricity bills, slashes climate-warming emissions and props up our state’s shaky electrical grid.

Understanding the signs of bipolar I versus bipolar II disorder

Dear Dr. Roach: My husband’s brother and paternal uncle were both diagnosed with bipolar disorder. His uncle struggled miserably for decades before his death; his brother has been in and out of institutions and outpatient programs for years. Because of the pain this has caused to our family, my husband and I have both tried to learn as much about bipolar disorder as possible. One thing I’ve read repeatedly is that a person is born with bipolar tendencies, and that it can be treated but never cured.

TxDOT calls for safe driving in work zones to continue downward trend in fatalities

Work zone crash fatalities decreased for the first time since 2018 Following a year in which fewer people were killed in work zone crashes in Texas, TxDOT is calling on all drivers to stay vigilant and help continue that downward trend. As National Work Zone Awareness Week kicks off, TxDOT’s “Be Safe. Drive Smart.” campaign is reminding drivers to stay alert and exercise caution when going through road construction and maintenance areas.

Man sentenced for federal drug trafficking in East Texas

A man out of California has been sentenced to 170 months in federal prison following a guilty plea in the Eastern District of Texas. In a news release issued Wednesday, the Eastern District said Pablo Antonio Sandoval, 24, pleaded guilty on August 8, 2022, to possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and was sentenced to 170 months in federal prison by U.S. District Judge Jeremy D. Kernodle on April 18, 2023.
