You can tie a knot with numerous things, from rope to ribbons. As children, we learn to tie shoelaces. Boys becoming men are taught how to tie a Windsor knot. Crafters create knot blankets, and custom tailors tie knots to the end of sewing threads. But not all knots are formed for fashion or to fortify. Some are created from tangles, like a knot in the delicate link of a necklace or a muddle of phone and computer wires.

Black History Month centered education class will be taking place this weekend in Sherman. The program, “Civics 101: How our government works will be held from 5:30-7 p.m. Monday in the Grand Avenue Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall located at 901 N Grand Ave., Sherman.

Fifteen-year-old Miranda Verde of Trenton took home the top prize in the Open Your Heart Art Contest sponsored by the Fannin County Children’s Center. She won $100 and a blue ribbon for her artwork that will now be featured on the front of the Open Your Heart campaign cards. Fourteen-year-old Ryan Compton of Dodd City won a second place ribbon and $50. Her artwork will be featured on the inside of the cards.
