“Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire.” Hebrews 12:28-29 Social media has been filled with news reports of thousands of people descending upon a little town, and a little Christian university in Wilmore, Kentucky. By now, most of us have heard something of what many are calling a national- revival sparked by 30 or so students on the campus of Asbury on February 8th, 2023. No matter what you believe about those events, it has caused many of us to ponder what a nation might look like if it actually turned back to God in repentance. The writer of Hebrews in chapter 12 has just been talking about how God will one day shake the heavens and the earth. It is certainly a reference to a coming judgment. In view of such a catastrophic event, many people believe that God might give nations the opportunity to turn to Him before He brings this “shaking” to our land. Is Asbury the beginning of an opportunity for our nation to finally fulfill II Chronicles 7:14? There is hope that it might be.
