Carol Pennell

A Memorial service for Carol Pennell will be held on Saturday January 7, 2023, at 11 am at The Grayson Bible Baptist Church, 4400 US Highway 82E in Sherman, Texas. Pastor Roy Webster will officiate. Mr. Pennell passed from this life on Friday December 9, 2022. It was his wish that his body be donated to research and science at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. Nr Pennell is survived by his wife of 45 years, Rebecca; one brother, Ron Pennell of Tom Bean, Texas and one sister, Sue Ross of Sherman, Texas. Mr. Pennell had a heart for missions, both foreign and domestic. In lieu of flowers, donations to Carol and Rebecca Pennell Foundation are encouraged by mailing to 1817 Wild Kingdom Road, Denison Texas 75021.

Careful monitoring of medications is medically necessary

Dear Dr. Roach: Your recent article on electrolytes reminded me of my mother’s experience. At 89, she was dizzy, fainting and falling. I took her to her doctor. Her blood tests showed dangerously low levels of electrolytes, and I was told to get her to the emergency room quickly. The doctor there determined that her problem was caused by drugs -- essentially, the blood pressure medicine prescribed by her doctor. She was hospitalized, put on appropriate IVs and recovered fully after four days. A doctor told me a person of advanced age who is on a diuretic has to be monitored as carefully as a baby. Needless to say, she hadn’t been.

Sam Rayburn’s Birthday Party Returns to the Sam Rayburn House

Sam Rayburn’s birthday is right around the corner, and we want you to celebrate with us! Born January 6, 1882, in Roane County, Tennessee, Sam Rayburn was just 5 years old when he moved to Fannin County with his family. The Rayburn clan settled in Flag Springs, but later moved to Bonham, a place that was dear to Mr. Sam’s heart throughout his life. Bonham was where he first saw Congressman Joseph Weldon Bailey speak, which led to his life’s ambition: to enter politics and eventually become Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives. And Bonham was where he and his brother Tom would build a home and farm for the Rayburn family.
