There is an old adage about how you don’t realize how much you miss something until it is gone. I can’t help but feel the person who first said that was talking about the conveniences of modern technology.

What has arguably been the area’s premiere Valentines event is back this year as Chocolate Indulgence returns to February. Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children of Grayson County’s biggest fundraiser of the year is also returning to its previous location at the Municipal Ballroom for the fundraiser.

I kicked off day one of the new year by trying a new coffee shop — well, new to me. Upon opening the door, the smell of caramelized nuts, jasmine, and smoky fruits charmed my imagination. The walls and countertops were a creamy custard color accented by a pale shade of robin egg blue. Whitewashed wooden chandeliers gave light to a collection of small tables, some stacked with puzzles and board games. The music piping through the speakers was as soothing as the employee’s voice who asked if this were my first time there. I drank in the ambiance well before I tasted their signature coffee.

One of my summer memories is sleeping late and waking up to watch Bob Barker host The Price is Right. As a kid I did pretty well – no telling how many dinettes, bedroom suites, and cars I could have won if my name had ever been called to Come on Down!
