The machineries of government can be used for good or ill. Some politicians abuse their offices or use them strictly to destroy their political opponents while others try to uplift their communities and make life better for others. With his more than four decades in Congress, Jack Brooks became an iconic figure who instituted many changes for Southeast Texas.

According to colleagues and staff at Hyde Park Elementary, teacher Leslie Banks is dedicated, hard-working, innovative and inclusive. She is also kind, caring, respectful, enthusiastic and encouraging. Forever looking for new and exciting ways to actively involve her students in learning, she truly believes that all children can and will learn if material is presented in meaningful ways that meet each child’s individual learning needs.

Just before Thanksgiving Break on Nov. 17, long-term Sherman ISD employees were honored for their service to the district with a party filled with fun and friends.
