Democracy and political violence in the United States

Over the past five years, incidents of political violence in the United States by right-wing extremists have soared. Few experts who track this type of violence believe things will get better anytime soon without concerted action. Domestic extremism is actually likely to worsen. The attack on Paul Pelosi, the husband of the speaker of the House of Representatives, was only the latest episode, and federal officials warn that the threat of violence could continue to escalate after the midterm elections.

At the movies: Armageddon Time is a weaker, but often interesting, directorial effort from James Gray

Growing up isn’t easy. It’s always an awkward experience full of stumbles, misunderstandings, and anxiety. It’s an especially bad process when you realize at some point in your life that it doesn’t end when you turn 18. Just because you’re old enough to enlist in the U.S. military or about to start college doesn’t mean you’ve finished evolving as a human being. We’re all always growing and being exposed to further complexities of reality, which is simultaneously a comforting and terrifying thought. Armageddon Time, a quasi-autobiographical period piece from writer/director James Gray, captures a small portion of growing up in the life of Paul Graff (Banks Repeta), a sixth grader growing up in Queens, New York in 1980.

Bobbie Jo Donoho Cox

Bobbie Jo Donoho Cox went to be with Jesus at 4:30 AM on November 8, 2022. She was surrounded by three generations of family. Bobbie was born on January 26, 1933, in Van Alstyne to parents Ralph and Mary Donoho. While working a t Hardwick Etter she met the love of her life, Troy Cox. Troy and Bobbie were married in Sherman on January 31, 1953, until 2013 when Troy passed. Bobbie and Troy welcomed three children into the world, Darlene, Dianne, and Michael. Bobbie was a PTA leader, bluebird and campfire leader, Boy Scout leader, and a chauffeur for us kids. Bobbie retired from Oscar Meyer after 17 years and was soon diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2000. We have had our ups and downs, but we made it through them all! Bobbie is survived by children, Michael and wife Suzanne Cox, Dainne and husband Kelly Hale. Grandchildren, Justin Walston, Jonathan Cox, Jamie and Joey Reason, and Justin and Tara Hale. Great grandchildren Maleigha, Trae, CJ and Rowan Reason, Sophia and Daniel Hale, as well as a special bonus great grandson Brice Benton and great great granddaughter Anna Stoyer, sister Joy and Bob Bennett, brother Eldon Donoho, sister in laws, Jonelle Donoho and Kathy Cox, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Bobbie is preceded in death by her parents, husband Troy, Daughter Darlene, sister Geneva, and brothers Tommy, Ralph and Gary. We would like to give a special thanks to Heart-to-Heart Hospice for loving Bobbie and caring for her for many years. Ty, Beddie, Donelle, and Daniel, we truly appreciate you.
