Texas History Minute: Texas native James Otto Richardson, his role leading Pearl Harbor prior to attack

The Japanese sneak attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941 has been studied at length by military minds and academics for decades. The naval officer in charge of the Pacific Fleet in the months before the attack was a Texas native, Admiral James Otto Richardson. As the United States began preparing for war in 1940, Richardson pointed to weak defenses at Pearl Harbor that he feared would lead to disaster.

Bryan County News: Early banks of Caddo

From the obituary of W. H. Ainsworth, 1911: “Captain Ainsworth was a good man, an honest man. In the early days before banks were established it was the custom for merchants to keep money of citizens in their safe, no receipts being given; and to his store came many deposits, yet none ever complained of not getting back all that they put in.”

DAWG has transported 191 animals by air

The Denison Animal Welfare Group will end the year with 191 animals transported to new homes via air transport. The welfare group launched its third and final flight of the year Tuesday via a partnership with Dog is my CoPilot — a non-profit aimed at transporting animals from overcrowded shelters to areas with higher adoption rates.
