Apartments coming to former Woodmen Circle site
Earlier this year, the Woodsmen Circle Home was torn down, and now, the site adjacent to FM 1417 in Sherman will soon be new apartment complex. Following a brief discussion Tuesday, the Sherman Planning and Zoning Commission approved early plans for a 295-unit apartment complex on the grounds of the former orphanage and widows home at 2817 W.

Jean Lorene Beavers was a wonderful woman, friend, & mother. Jean, age 88, passed away peacefully October 14th, 2022 with her family by her side. Jean was born on February 19th, 1934, in Fort Worth, Texas to Clyde Lee Ramsey & Ruby Ramsey of Denison, Texas. She was love, she was laughter, she was kind, & compassionate. Jean loved her family, to cook (fabulously), & the one and only, Elvis Presley. Jean is proceeded in death by her Mother & Father, Clyde and Ruby Ramsey; Her Husband, Bobby Beavers; & Her Sister Carol Delores Ramsey. Jean is survived by her brother, Harold Lee Ramsey (Jeanie) & Calvin Dean Ramsey (Jimmie); Her Daughters, Sherry Lynn Beavers Sigman Williams & Cathy Marie Gardner Carlton; Her Son, Jeffery Dale Beavers (Becky); Grandchildren, Justin Michael Sigman, Patrick Dale Murray, & Courtney Marie Carlton; Great Grandchildren, Brooklyn & Skylar Browning. Along with her many friends & cousins that love her. Family Night will be at the funeral home on Friday, October 21st, from 6 pm to 8 pm. Funeral Service will take place on Saturday, October 22nd, at 1 pm at Cravens Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be at the Westhill Cemetery in Sherman, Texas. Free prison phone calls
Imagine having to go into debt to stay in touch with a loved one — all while fearing for their safety and well-being. That is the grim reality facing 1 in 3 families of incarcerated people in the United States, thanks to the sky-high costs of phone calls from prison. So it is welcome news that California has moved against this cruel situation. Last month, Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) signed a law to make all phone calls from state prisons free. Now it’s time for other states, and Congress, to act.
