Local historians and advocates still hope to unveil a historic marker recognizing a moment of racial violence in Sherman in time for its 93th anniversary. Representatives for a group seeking to recognize the 1930 lynching of George Hughes said the Texas Historical Commission is currently working on the wording for the marker that will be placed on the grounds of the Grayson County Courthouse — the site of the nearly century-old riot.
