It is a long-running scandal that members of Congress are allowed to trade individual stocks. They have access to privileged information. They oversee a sprawling web of federal policy. Their actions can have direct effects on the companies in which they have stakes. The potential for real or perceived conflicts of interest is enormous.

In late 2021, Grayson College (GC), along with 23 area high schools and 8 partner universities, launched the Texoma Promise Program to graduating seniors. Grayson staff supported high schools by visiting each campus to assist students with signing the Texoma Promise Pledge, applying to Grayson College, completing the Grayson Foundation scholarship application and completing the FAFSA. The Grayson Promise Program, the College’s Promise program under Texoma Promise, awards each service area graduating senior, who takes the Texoma Promise pledge, a $350 scholarship. To qualify for the scholarship, students must take the Texoma Promise Pledge their senior year, apply for admissions to Grayson College and complete the Grayson Foundation Scholarship application and the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). In addition, the College awards a “last dollar” scholarship to cover the remaining balance of mandatory tuition and fees after all scholarships and Federal PELL funds have been applied to any student whose family adjusted gross income (AGI) is $80,000 or less.

The radical right’s clear victory in Italy’s election is a historic and disturbing moment in European politics. Formed 10 years ago, and with roots in a formerly fringe neo-fascist tradition, Giorgia Meloni’s Brothers of Italy party will dominate the most rightwing administration to govern the country in the postwar period. The third-largest economy in the eurozone and a founding member of the European Union, Italy has now become a beacon and a model for nationalist, authoritarian forces across the continent.
Big fish eat the little ones. It takes a lot of little ones to sustain the king of salmon — the voracious chinook.
