Body of missing woman found

Staff reports Just hours after the Sherman Police Department announced the body of missing woman Elizabeth “Clarice” Harrison, 28, had been found, the department announced an arrest in the homicide case Friday afternoon. A news release from SPD said, “as a result of the investigation into the disappearance and death of Clarice Harrison, the Sherman Police Department arrested Brandon Joseph Tom (31-year-old, white male) for multiple offenses related to this investigation.

Former Richardson mayor sentenced in Sherman Thursday

Eastern District The former mayor of Richardson and a land developer whom she married after the federal investigation began, have been sentenced for their public corruption convictions in the Eastern District of Texas. A news release from Featherston’s office said Laura Jordan, also known as Laura Maczka, 57, and Mark Jordan, 55, both of Plano were convicted by a jury on July 24, 2021 of bribery concerning a program receiving federal funds, conspiracy to commit bribery concerning a program receiving federal funds, tax fraud, and conspiracy to commit taxfraud.

Indigent defense costs drop in 2021

By Jerrie Whiteley Herald Democrat The cost of defending those who can’t afford their own attorneys bucked the trend of everything else that is increasing in Grayson County and the country in 2021. Statistics from the Texas Indigent Defense Commission show that the total costs to defend those who couldn’t afford their own attorneys in Grayson County in 2021 was $865,051.

Biden’s program to fund 100,000 new police officers in the U.S.

Los Angeles Times COVID-19 scuttled President Biden’s trip last month to Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, where he planned to unveil a $37-billion public safety program centered on federal funding for 100,000 new police officers in local law enforcement departments around the nation. The aim was to respond to anxiety over crime increases in some cities and to make clear to voters, in advance of November’s midterm elections, that he and congressional Democrats do not fit the soft-on-crime caricature painted by former President Trump and other Republican leaders.
