Commissioners, Sherman officials talk jail expansion

Grayson County commissioners heard from city officials, a former city of Sherman mayor and some downtown business owners Tuesday about the prospect of expanding the Grayson County Jail. By the time the public hearing had ended, Grayson County Commissioner Jeff Whitmire and Sherman City Manager Robby Hefton had agreed to talk later in the day about the costs of expansion of the jail in either its current location or a future location outside of downtown and the ways to pay for studies to assess those items.

Gardener’s mailbag: How can I find a certified arborist?

Dear Neil: I have read your recommendations of our using “certified arborists.” I live outside a major urban area. How could I find out if there is one that serves my vicinity? We had trees that were bulldozed down in error while we were out of town. The homeowner responsible is being asked to replace a large number of trees and shrubs in this wild area, but we need a certified arborist to establish what was growing there natively before.
