At least 21 homes destroyed by Texas wildfires

A pair of two-day-old North Texas wildfires continued to resist containment Wednesday after destroying 21 homes, officials said. The Chalk Mountain Fire near Glen Rose, Texas, destroyed 16 homes and damaged five others as it remained on the move Wednesday after scorching almost 10 square miles (26 square kilometers) of mostly short grass, brush and juniper as of midday Wednesday, said Alexandra Schwier, a Texas A&M Forest Service spokeswoman.

Austin College’s Sandy Philipose Selected for Inaugural Education “Inquiry Initiative”

Austin College education faculty member Sandy Philipose has been selected to participate in the inaugural “Inquiry Initiative” sponsored by the Association of Teacher Educators (ATE). The Initiative is a first-of-its-kind collaborative exploration of teacher education practices and research, focused on “opportunity gaps” in education. Opportunity gaps are defined as the unequal or inequitable distribution of resources and options individuals or groups encounter in schools, colleges and universities, and employment and professional contexts.

Fatal wreck leads to indictment

A fatal wreck in Howe in September of 2021 has lead to an indictment in Grayson County. A news release from the Grayson County District Attorney’s Office said Guillermo Jesus Munoz Garcia, 21, of Dallas, was indicted on charges of manslaughter and criminal negligent homicide this week.
