Could Sherman be the next tech hub?

As Texas Instruments and GlobiTech each prepare for multi-billion dollar expansions of operations, the deals may be the sign of a change in direction for the city of Sherman. With the two tech companies, and others in the region, slated to create thousands of jobs, local leaders and economic developers have begun to refer to the city as hub for technology in North Texas.

William “Bill” Morgan Malone, Jr., 85 years of age, passed away Tuesday, July 19, 2022, at his home in Cypress, TX after a courageous battle with cancer. Bill was born January 8, 1937, in Washington D.C.

Helen Wood

Helen Ruth Wilson Wood was born on September 21, 1946 in Bonham, Texas to Arvil Eugene Wilson “Shorty” and Lillie Mae Vaughn Wilson. She passed away July 17, 2022 in Denison, Texas at the age of 75 years. Helen grew up in Trenton, Texas where she attended Trenton public schools. After high school she met and married O.G. Wood “Woody” on December 16, 1966. Together they had 3 children, Denise, Paul and Crystal. She and Woody were longtime members of the First United Methodist Church of Whitewright. Helen is survived by daughter Denise and husband John Brians of Bonham; son Paul and wife Coline of Howe; daughter Crystal of Honey Grove; bonus son and daughter Micheal and Stephanie Thompson of Sherman; along with 6 wonderful grandchildren Tiffany Corn, Crystal Hookland, Craig Wood, Michelle Roach, Thomas Patrick Jr. and Cydney Wood; 2 bonus grandchildren Michaela Thompson and Mason Thompson ; 3 great-grandchildren; Andrew Wood, Cash Wood, Noah Hookland; 3 bonus great grandchildren Zaidyn McKinney, Everleigh Thompson and Oakley Anderson plus numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Woody; parents; brothers, Odell Wilson, Billy Wayne Wilson, Thomas “Tommy” Wilson, Eugene “Boots” Wilson; sister, Lillian Bell Wilson. and niece Lisa Wilson Thompson. Helen was also blessed to have in her life, the wonderful family of Joe and Veda Norwood. They are a true blessing from God.

Lora Smith

Lora Margaret Wilson Smith was born on October 22, 1925 in Trenton, Texas to William Chesley Smith and Maud Ethel Brown Wilson, she was the third of eight children. She went home to be with her Lord and Savior on July 21, 2022 in Whitewright, Texas at the age of 96. Lora and her family moved to Whitewright from Trenton, her senior year in high school. Three years after graduating, she met and married Willie B. Smith on December 21, 1946. She was baptized at a small Baptist church in Trenton and attended First Baptist Church in Whitewright.
