In 2007, country music icon Gary Allan released a song entitled “Watching Airplanes” in which he harmonizes about a man whose girlfriend just left him. This lady is taking off on an airplane to go somewhere far away, to start a new life. Now, this man is just peering up at the sky, vessels soaring across the blue canvas hovering above us all, wondering about “which one you might be on...and why you don’t love me anymore.” Yes, he is indeed “Watching Airplanes.” Moviegoers around the globe are bound to do something similar once Top Gun: Maverick hits theaters, though given how much fun this long-awaited sequel is, they’re bound to be much happier with their experience of witnessing aerial vehicles “take off. and fly.”
S&S High School honored the first graduate of its class of 2022 Tuesday — nearly 80 years after he would have crossed the stage and graduated. The S&S Consolidated Independent School District officially presented a high school diploma to Weldon McClane during a special ceremony Tuesday after the 98-year-old dropped out of school in the 1940s to join the war effort.
Michele Drolet-Dewever passed away 18 April 2022, surrounded by those dear to her. She was a loving mother and Meme, journalist, international Artificial Intelligence publication editor, translator, entrepreneur, physical therapist, avid reader/cross word-solver, genius, and adventurer. She is survived by her daughter Elise, sons Kevin and Greg, brothers Colman and Luke and sisters Mallory, George-Anna, Mary Lou and their families. Michele is preceded in death by her daughter Joy, her parents Robert and Marquetta and her brother Michael.
Joretta Aaron Garvin, 94, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 25, 2022. Joretta was born April 28, 1928, in Tioga, Texas, to Cecil and Retta Miller Aaron.
Jake Loy Goldston, 84 years of age, passed away May 12, 2022, in Sadler, Texas. Loy was born to the late Herman and Lois Goldson in Sherman, Texas on October 2, 1937. He was a veteran of the US Army and loved going fishing. Loy was a active member of the Dorchester Baptist Church for many years. He began working for GTE as a Lineman and retired after 30+ years in a management position with the company.
Carolyne Hibbitt Alsup, age 93, passed from this life peacefully on Saturday, April 30, 2022. Born in Itasca TX in 1928, she grew up in Denison TX and lived there until 2009. For the past 11 years, she was a resident at StoryPoint Assisted Living in Chattanooga. She is survived by her loving family, Bob and Lota Alsup of Chattanooga, Hal Alsup of Austin TX, and Mike and Lien Alsup of Tulsa OK; grandchildren, Joel and Lindsey Alsup of Memphis TN, James and Kathleen Alsup of Howell MI, and Emily and Justin Forsythe of Chattanooga TN; and seven great-grandchildren (Audrey and Jacob Wilkerson, Ethan and Harper Alsup, and Afton, Eleanor and Ronan Forsythe). She was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Bruce T. Hibbitt Sr. and Merle Martin Hibbitt, and her siblings Nita Baxley and Bruce Hibbitt Jr. of Denison TX and Patsy Barnett of Baltimore MD.
