1 dead following officer involved shooting

Last week, the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office was involved in an officer involved shooting that resulted in the death of one individual.
The incident took place Thursday in Tom Bean.
“At approximately 11:10 p.m. on Thursday, July 3, 2025, the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call reporting a family disturbance involving an armed individual at a residence located in the 400 block of Bonham Street in Tom Bean, Texas,” a release from the Sheriff’s Office said.
“When deputies arrived, they encountered 32-year-old Nathan Edwards, who was armed,” the release said. “During the encounter, actions taken by Edwards resulted in one of our deputies discharging their firearm. The suspect was struck, the scene was quickly secured, and deputies rendered aid. Edwards was pronounced dead at the scene and was later transported to the Dallas County Medical Examiner Office for an autopsy.”
Since this was an officer involved incident, the next step was to notify the Texas Rangers of the incident.
“In accordance with standard protocol, the Texas Rangers were requested and have taken over the investigation into the incident,” the release said. “The Grayson County Sheriff’s Office is fully cooperating with the Rangers’ investigation.”
GCSO also said that they strive to conduct themselves with professionalism and restraint.
“Our deputies are trained to handle difficult and dangerous situations, and they do so with professionalism and restraint,” the release said. “No deputy ever wants an encounter to end in the use of deadly force—but they are prepared to protect themselves and others when required.”
