FRISCO — Ashlyn Heckman had a hat trick to lead the way for Frisco Wakeland and the Lady Wolverines rode an early advantage to a 10-0 victory against Sherman in a Class 4A Region II bi-district match at Toyota Stadium on Tuesday night.

Frisco Wakeland (14-6-3), the runner-up in District 18-4A, will face either Princeton or Carrollton Creekview in the area round later this week.

It was a tough end to the season for the Lady Bearcats (8-14-2), who suffered their second straight lopsided loss in the bi-district round and were coming off a 4-0 win against rival Denison in a playoff warm-up last week after a third-place finish in 17-4A.

The Lady Bearcats managed just one shot, an attempt by Madison Craig with under 10 minutes remaining in the match.

By that point Wakeland had put the finishing touches on its scoring. Heckman scored her three in the second half and Rachel Crane also connected following the break with the final goal coming with 21:33 showing.

Wakeland opened the scoring when Paige Jorgensen was able to send in into the right corner of the net when Sherman couldn’t clear just over eight minutes into the match.

The Lady Wolverines had a pair of chances before that but Jorgensen was high on an attempt and Lauren Prentice missed wide to the left.

Sherman’s first opportunity came on a throw-in just past midfield in Wakeland territory but Brenna McCann’s toss was too far for Veronica Sosa to track down and the Lady Wolverines cleared it without incident at the 28:39 mark.

Cameron Hart made it 2-0 when she scored from the right side of the field off a set piece following a corner, fitting the ball just inside the left post with 24:05 showing.

Less than three minutes later Prentice scored when her shot from about 10 yards outside the box was too hard for Kaelee Fretwell to handle and added to Wakeland’s lead.

Sherman came up with an immediate counter following the goal but Wakeland keeper Robin Fletcher came charging out to cut off a pass before the Lady Bearcats could attempt a shot.

The Lady Wolverines netted three goals in the final 10 minutes of the half, including one right before the break. Brianna Ellerbe hooked a shot around a defender, Zoe Lankford put in a rebound off a corner kick and then Lankford converted again following a corner — with eight seconds showing on the clock.

Fretwell kept the damage there by saving two deflected shots and corralling a ball that went off the left post before it could find its way into the net.
