LINDSAY — The Denison Lady Yellow Jackets split a pair of games to open the NCTC Tournament on Thursday, opening with a 6-2 victory in five innings against Lindsay before suffering a 3-2 loss in four innings against Tom Bean.

Cassidy McDaris was 3-for-3 with two RBI, Monica Eslick was 3-for-3 with three runs and Mady McAlester and Hailey Jackson doubled for the Lady Jackets in the win against Lindsay.


In the loss to Tom Bean, Eslick and McDaris doubled for Denison (4-2-1), which continues tourney action today against Farmersville at 10:15 a.m.a and North Crowley’s junior varsity at 2 p.m. at Lindsay.


Tom Bean 11, Farmersville 0 (3)


GAINESVILLE — Sarah Henderson was 3-for-3 with three runs scored as Tom Bean defeated Farmersville at the NCTC Tournament on Thursday.


Caroline Henderson was 2-for-2, Shelby Motley hit a two-run triple, Alex Hendry added an RBI triple and Annie Bailey struck out six and allowed just one hit for Tom Bean.


In a 3-2 victory over Denison in four innings, Shelly Peterson had an RBI double during a three-run second inning for the Lady Tomcats (7-1), who will face Little Elm at 9 a.m. and North Crowley’s junior varsity at 11:30 a.m. today as tourney action continues at Lindsay.


Whitewright 2, Ponder 0 (5)


GAINESVILLE — Hatty Shope’s two-run single in the fourth inning lifted Whitewright past Ponder in the NCTC Tournament at Gainesville High School on Thursday.


Tucker Caraway allowed only a second-inning second, striking out seven and walking one for Whitewright.


The Lady Tigers opened the tournament with a 5-3 victory in four innings against Boyd. Anna Shope had a three-run homer, Sydney Brummett hit an RBI triple and Caraway struck out seven and walked one for Whitewright (8-0), which will face Valley View at 11:30 a.m. and Bonham at 3:15 p.m. today at NCTC.


Whitesboro 14, Blue Ridge 0 (3)


GAINESVILLE — Taren Dillon was a home run shy of the cycle as she went 3-for-3 with four RBI in Whitesboro’s victory over Blue Ridge at the NCTC Tournament on Thursday at Gainesville High School.


Katie Dean had two hits, scored twice and struck out eight, Kacie Jones was 2-for-3 with three runs and three RBI and Alexus Vanlandingam scored three times for Whitesboro, which scored 12 runs in the third inning.


The Lady Bearcats opened the tournament with a 4-2 victory over Holliday in four innings but scoring twice in the bottom of the fourth. Vanlandingham was 3-for-3, Moriah Mitcheson doubled and Dean struck out eight for Whitesboro (7-2), which will play Fort Worth Castleberry at 10:15 a.m. and Gainesville at 3:15 p.m. today at Gainesville.


Van Alstyne Tournament


Sanger 11, Melissa 3 (4)


VAN ALSTYNE — Haley Hill had two hits, including a double, and drove in two runs as Melissa opened the Van Alstyne Tournament with a loss against Sanger on Thursday.


Kelsey Smith and Madison Boedeker each scored and Rebecca Pittman walked twice for the Lady Cardinals.


Melissa started the tournament with an 11-3 loss in four innings against Van Alstyne. Boedeker and Reagon Brogdon doubled for the Lady Cardinals, who face Leonard today at 4 p.m. and Bells at 5:20 p.m. as tournament play continues.


S&S Tournament


Honey Grove 10, Ector 4


SADLER — Ashlee Foster scored three runs, doubled and tripled and Kailee Frost had three hits and scored twice as Honey Grove defeated Ector, 10-4, in five innings to go 2-1 at the S&S Tournament on Thursday.


Kourtney Pevey had two hits, Alex Gibbons scored twice, Alisha Dixon drove in two and Whitney Smith tripled for Honey Grove (2-1), which resumes tournament play on Saturday against S&S at 2 p.m.


Ector’s Tiffany Sellers scored twice and doubled, joining Rylee Coldiron and Kelsee Nelson with two hits apiece.


In the second game, Caiti Warren had two RBI, walked and joined Frost with two hits and two runs as Honey Grove defeated Muenster, 11-0, in five innings. Frost allowed no earned runs and only three hits, while striking out nine. Pevey scored three runs and Aubrey Ordonez added two.


Ordonez went 2-for-3, Foster doubled and Pevey allowed no earned runs and only three hits in a 2-1 opening loss to Merit Bland.


Bland beat Lindsay’s junior varsity, 16-0, and topped Muenster, 9-1, in other first-day tourney action.


Pottsboro Tournament


Lady Cards go 2-1


POTTSBORO — The host Lady Cardinals won two of three games at their tournament on Thursday.


Pottsboro picked up a 16-4 victory in four innings against Collinsville and a 5-2 win in five innings over Aubrey to go with an 11-2 loss in four innings to Pilot Point’s junior varsity.
