NORTH RICHLAND HILLS — The Denison Yellow Jackets placed fourth at the Jonny Baggett Memorial Tournament with a 1-0 shootout loss to host Birdville in the third-place match on Saturday.

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS — The Denison Yellow Jackets placed fourth at the Jonny Baggett Memorial Tournament with a 1-0 shootout loss to host Birdville in the third-place match on Saturday.


After playing to the scoreless tie, the teams went through the shooutout connecting on four goals apiece before Birdville converted in sudden death on the sixth attempt to outlast Denison.


Marcos Sauceda made the fifth and final attempt to extend the shootout after Brandt Krasovic, Adam Green and Chance Speigel made their kicks.


The Jackets started Saturday with a 2-0 victory over Fort Worth Western Hills behind Green’s first goal of the season from Speigel in the first half and then Krasovic scoring off an assist by Orlando Macedo in the second half. Michael Moran made two saves to earn the shutout.


In tournament action on Friday, Denison (5-2-1) started with a 2-0 loss against Diamond Hill-Jarvis before earning a 1-1 tie against Dallas Spruce when Krasovic scored off an assist from Jake Delmont.


Girls Gainesville Tmt. Third-place match


Argyle 4, Denison 0


GAINESVILLE — The Denison Lady Yellow Jackets finished fourth at the Gainesville Tournament after a shutout loss against Argyle on Saturday.


Denison advanced to the third-place match with a 1-0 victory over Anna earlier in the day. Zoie Voight had her ninth goal off the season from Harley Goodin with five minutes remaining. Ashley Wood made two saves to earn the shutout for the Lady Jackets, who host Paris at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday.


In tournament action on Friday, Voight had a goal off an assist from Angel O’Brien in a 4-1 loss to Princeton.


West Mesquite 2, Sherman 1


GAINESVILLE — Veronica Sosa scored to give Sherman the early lead but the Lady Bearcats couldn’t hang on against West Mesquite to close out the Gainesville Tournament.


Sosa’s goal came off a Brenna McCann assist in the 14th minute before West Mesquite scored twice right before the half.


Lourden Bell was named to the all-tournament team for Sherman (3-8-1), which hosts Bonham on Tuesday night.


In tournament action on Friday, Frisco Lone Star came away with a 7-0 victory over the Lady Bearcats.
