Leonard senior kicker Ty McKinney led several area selections on the Associated Press Class 2A all-state team, earning first-team honors for his efforts.

McKinney connected on five-of-seven field goals with a long of 44 yards while making 49-of-53 extra points to go with 28 touchbacks.

Voting was based on regular-season statistics only. McKinney’s efforts during the Tigers’ run to the Division II state semifinals were not included.

McKinney was also an honorable mention pick at punter and joined by players from several other area schools in that category.

Three offensive linemen were honorable mention choices — Van Alstyne senior Connor Mayes, Leonard junior Dylan Pelton and Whitesboro senior Bryan Townsend.

A pair of running backs — Leonard senior Solomon Titus and S&S senior Willie Winborne — were also honorable mention.

Defensively Pilot Point linemen John Groff and Lucas Greenwood were named honorable mention all-state.

Refugio quarterback Travis Quintanilla was named the Class 2A Offensive Player of the Year while Daingerfield lineman Kelshin Neal was picked as the Defensive Player of the Year.

The Associated Press released the Class 1A all-state team on Sunday but no Texoma players were selected. Anson quarterback Jalen Garza was the 1A Offensive Player of the Year while teammate Lance Norman, a lineman, was selected as the Defensive Player of the Year.
