Two local high school football players were named honorable-mention all-state in Class 3A by the Texas Sports Writers Association on Thursday.

Two local high school football players were named honorable-mention all-state in Class 3A by the Texas Sports Writers Association on Thursday.


Celina quarterback Nathan Elliott and Melissa offensive tackle Austin Reese received honors. Elliott, a 6-foot-2, 20-3-pound junior, passed for 1,907 yards and 26 touchdowns last season in leading the Bobcats to a 9-2 record. Reese, a 6-1, 265-pound senior, anchored a Cardinal line that helped Melissa’s offense average 439.2 yards per game.


Carthage senior quarterback Blake Bogenschutz and Fairfield senior running back Larry Rose shared offensive player of the year, while Navasota defensive lineman Jordan Wells was the defensive player of the year. Todd Rodgers of Argyle and Scott Surratt of Carthage shared coach of the year honors.
