ROYSE CITY — For the second night in a row, Sherman’s softball team suffered a rally by the opposition as Royse City scored nine runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to hand the Lady Bearcats a 14-9 loss on Wednesday night.

ROYSE CITY — For the second night in a row, Sherman’s softball team suffered a rally by the opposition as Royse City scored nine runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to hand the Lady Bearcats a 14-9 loss on Wednesday night.


The Lady Cats (5-13, 0-4) took a 9-3 lead into the bottom of the fifth inning before the host Lady Bulldogs got two runs in the home half and then exploded in the sixth.


Hailey Arndt, Kaylee Walker, Janette McCallister and Natalie Carrasco all had two hits in the loss for Sherman, and Carrasco drove in three runs. Taylor Bailiff and Carrasco each hit two-RBI doubles in a five-run top of the first inning.


The Lady Cats return to action on Monday night, hosting Lovejoy at Old Settlers Park.


Baseball District 12-2A Van Alstyne 6, Farmersville 4


VAN ALSTYNE — A day removed from defeating Sunnyvale, the top-ranked team on the Texas High School Coaches Baseball Association Class 2A poll, Van Alstyne edged Farmersville in District 12-2A play on Wednesday afternoon.


Brady Welch went 2-for-2 and scored twice for Van Alstyne (6-6-1, 2-1), which outhit Farmersville (15-4, 1-2), 8-7.


Van Alstyne’s Will Jones was 3-for-4 with two RBI while Bailey Thorpe and Jake Hillebrenner each went 1-for-2 and scored once.


Farmersville’s Darrin Pennington finished 1-for-4 with two RBI.


Van Alstyne will play again at 7 p.m. on Tuesday when it hosts Leonard.


Non-district Decatur 11, Gunter 1


GUNTER — Decatur scored six runs in the final inning to hand Gunter a non-district loss on Wednesday afternoon.


Rhett Taylor finished 2-for-4 at the plate and scored once for the Tigers while Troy Carrigan and Garrett Hunter each went 1-for-3 for Gunter (12-8), which returns to 12-2A play at Caddo Mills at 7 p.m. on Friday.
