A pair of Denison football players were named honorable-mention all-state in Class 4A by the Texas Sports Writers Association on Thursday.

A pair of Denison football players were named honorable-mention all-state in Class 4A by the Texas Sports Writers Association on Thursday.


Denison senior center Justin Bigelow was picked after grading out at 95 percent with 31 pancakes and 26 knockdowns while junior linebacker Jacob Hunt was chosen after making 79 tackles, 15 for a loss, three sacks, and an interception returned for a touchdown.


The duo helped the Yellow Jackets earn a share of the District 13-4A title and make the playoffs for the first time in four years.


Denton Guyer senior quarterback Jerrod Heard was the Offensive Player of the Year while San Antonio Brennan senior linebacker Grant Watanabe was the Defensive Player of the Year. Aledo’s Tim Buchanan was named the Coach of the Year.
