POTTSBORO — Under their recent string of successful seasons, the Cardinals have always had a consistent presence behind center.

Outside of injury, Pottsboro has normally stuck with one quarterback.

This time a pair of underclassmen battled during the off-season and were so close in talent that head coach Matt Poe felt he had to use both junior Hunter Mullenix and sophomore Zane Pritchett.

The plan worked very well as Pottsboro won its third straight district title and was 11-2 after a region semifinal loss to Daingerfield.

Pritchett completed 33-of-72 passes for 464 yards and five touchdowns and ran for 817 yards and four touchdowns while Mullenix was 84-of-160 for 1,196 yards and 10 touchdowns and ran for 450 yards and two scores.

That combined effort was fine production from one spot and the duo share the honor as the Herald Democrat All-Texomaland Class 1A-2A Newcomers of the Year for 2013.
