A 3-pointer from Taylor Smaller and a pair of Quinton Threadgill free throws closed the gap to three points with 2:03 to go. But after an exchange of 3s, HSU made three free throws in the final 32 seconds.


John Balwigaire led all scorers with 17 points on a 6-of-14 effort from the floor that included a 4-of-8 mark from the 3-point line. Smaller finished with nine points and a team-high four assists, while Threadgill chipped in seven points.


Urald King, Smaller and Anton Cook each hauled in six boards as the Storm (5-12, 3-9) held a 33-to-32 edge in the rebounding battle.
