NORTH RICHLAND HILLS — Orlando Macedo scored twice in each half off assists by Chance Speigel as Denison opened Birdville’s Jonny Baggett Memorial Tournament with a 3-1 victory against Fort Worth Brewer on Thursday afternoon.

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS — Orlando Macedo scored twice in each half off assists by Chance Speigel as Denison opened Birdville’s Jonny Baggett Memorial Tournament with a 3-1 victory against Fort Worth Brewer on Thursday afternoon.


Macedo’s first goal from Speigel gave the Yellow Jackets a 1-0 half-time advantage and then Humberto Ortiz scored his third goal of the season with Brandt Krasovic assisting less than 10 minutes into the second half.


Speigel found Macedo for his fifth goal of the year to pad Denison’s lead before Brewer scored on a penalty kick with just under nine minutes left.


Michael Moran made three saves for the Jackets (4-0), who continue tourney play today against Diamond Hill-Jarvis at 9:30 a.m. and then Dallas Spruce at 8 p.m. before facing Fort Worth Western Hills at 11 a.m. on Saturday.


Little Elm Tournament


Highland Park 3, Sherman 0


LITTLE ELM — Highland Park took advantage of a strong wind in the second half to beat Sherman to open the Little Elm Tournament on Thursday.


The Bearcats played the Scots to a scoreless tie at half-time before Highland Park broke through in the cold weather.


Sherman (5-3-1) will continue tournament action today when it faces McKinney at 10 a.m. and Dallas Hillcrest at 4 p.m.

Gainesville Tournament


Gainesville 5, Denison 1


GAINESVILLE — Denison got off to a quick start but couldn’t maintain that momentum in a tournament-opening loss to host Gainesville on Thursday afternoon.


Zoie Voight scored her seventh goal of the season off and assist by Maria Jaimes in the first minute but Gainesville did the rest of the scoring, including taking a 3-1 half-time lead.


Denison (3-3-1) continues tournament play today at 4 p.m. against Princeton and then faces Anna at 8 a.m. on Saturday.


Argyle 4, Sherman 0


GAINESVILLE — The Sherman Lady Bearcats opened the Gainesville Tournament with a loss against Argyle on Thursday afternoon.


Keeper Kaelee Fretwell and defender Lourden Bell had strong efforts for Sherman (3-6-1), which continues tournament action when it faces Frisco Lone Star today at 11:30 a.m.
