DURANT — Southeastern bounced back from a rough series opener to earn a split with rival East Central, taking Game 2 6-2 after dropping the opener 17-2 on Tuesday afternoon.

The split leaves the Savage Storm (21-8, 14-4 Great American Conference play) still atop the league standings.

In the second game, Mindy McElroy (11-3) fell just two outs shy of her third shutout and allowed two runs on six hits.

At the plate, Lacie Cook and Haley Strawn each posted 3-for-3 outings, with Strawn driving in a pair of runs and Cook scoring twice.

The first game could not have been any different from the second as the Storm was held to three hits, while ECU piled up 16.

Laramie Beal did turn in the lone highlight of the game with her seventh home run of the season, a solo shot, while Sydney Kramer also drove in a run.

The Storm will be back in action with the final four games of their 12-game home stand this weekend as they host Southern Arkansas for a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Friday and an 11 a.m. twinbill on Saturday.
