Austin College freshman pitcher Victoria Herrera tossed back-to-back complete game shutouts and broke the ‘Roo single season strikeout record to lead the ‘Roos to a doubleheader sweep of Centenary College, 9-0 and 5-0, on Sunday afternoon at Old Settlers Park.

Briana Hernandez finished 2-for-4 with four RBI and Emily Low went 2-for-3 with three RBI in the opener, while Herrera struck out nine and allowed just four hits in six innings of work for the ‘Roos (11-16, 4-12 SCAC).


Herrera came into the day tied for the single season record with 56 strikeouts and set the new mark in the top of the second, when she struck out the side.


In Game 2, Herrera struck out eight and allowed five hits in seven innings to get the win, her sixth of the season.


Sophia Hernandez went 3-for-4 with two RBI and Taylor Steelman finished 2-for-4 to pace the offense.
