Jackson McBride added nine points and Will Parker finished with seven points for Denison (1-1), which used a 13-0 run in the third quarter to take control.

“For having only one practice under our belt as a team, I was pleased with how we played,” Jackets head coach Chet Byerly said. “I thought we played hard and did a lot of good things. We’re not close to were we need to be but I’m excited about the potential.”

Denison will play at Frisco Liberty at 6 p.m. on Monday night.

Sherman 79, Sanger 60

SANGER — Junior J’Lynn Thompson scored a career-high 35 points as Sherman opened the season with a big victory over Sanger.

Tre’ Mask added 14 points and Ty Williams scored 10 for the Bearcats, who steadily pulled away in the latter three periods after trailing by one point at the end of the first period.

The Bearcats will play their home opener next Tuesday against Melissa at about 6:30 p.m.

Whitewright 45, Melissa 34

WHITEWRIGHT — Dane Robinson scored 14 points and dished out five assists, and Desmond McNeil added 10 points and four assists as the Tigers won their season-opener against shorthanded Melissa.

Mason Riggins had eight points and 10 rebounds, and Dennis Black added seven points and five rebounds for Whitewright. Sheldon Moore led the Cardinals (0-2) with a game-high 16 points.

Whitewright will travel to Sulphur Springs on Saturday while Melissa, which still has players in football, will visit Roxton on Monday.

Bells 64, Dodd City 33

BELLS — Wade Stanley scored 13 points as Bells opened its season with a victory against Dodd City on Tuesday night.

Ian Murphy and Derek Paveloff each finished with 10 points, Colton Foster added eight points and Kyler Durham chipped in seven points for Bells, which hosts Ector on Friday.

Holden Horton had 15 points and Tyler Dotson scored 12 points for Dodd City, which plays at Sam Rayburn on Friday.

Trenton 85, Ector 43

TRENTON — Lane Henderson had 39 points and eight rebounds as Trenton defeated Ector in non-district action on Tuesday night.

Bailey Burks, Garrett Puyear and Cody Huff each chipped in eight points and Puyear added 11 rebounds for Trenton (2-0), which hosts a tournament this weekend.

Tom Bean 47, Celeste 24

CELESTE — Hunter Brook had 13 points and nine rebounds as Tom Bean opened its season with a non-district victory against Celeste on Tuesday night.

Nathan Shipman scored 10 points, Tanner Ellis finished with nine points and six rebounds and Logan LeDane chipped in 10 steals, six assists, four points and four rebounds for Tom Bean.

Texoma Chr. 58, Frisco Legacy 43

Harold Johnson scored 23 points as Texoma Christian defeated Frisco Legacy Christian in non-district action on Tuesday night.

Zach Walston added eight points, Luke Maher chipped in five points and Carter Haney and Andrew Kyle finished with four points apiece for Texoma Christian (2-1), which faces Paradise at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday to open the Slidell Tournament.

Grayson Chr. 68, Temple Christian 36

Brayden Barkley had 21 points, seven rebounds and two blocks as Grayson Christian defeated Temple Christian in non-district action on Tuesday night.

Tyler Tarpley added 12 points while Nicholas Baumann, Justin Brock and Randall Mozingo finished with nine points apiece for Grayson Christian (1-1).
