COLLEGE STATION — All four local teams advanced to the championship bracket of the Texas state 7-on-7 tournament on Thursday during pool play at Veterans Park and Athletic Complex.


Gunter won its pool in the Division III bracket, with wins over Johnson City (42-6), Alpine (42-13) and Falls City (42-21). The Tigers will face Lexington at 8 a.m. on Friday in the first round of the Division III championship bracket.


Meanwhile, Bonham, Celina and Melissa each finished second in their respective pools, advancing to the championship bracket in Division II. All three will play their first-round games on Friday at 9 a.m.


Bonham finished second to Goliad in Pool C, dropping their first game, 40-18, before the Warriors beat Rockport, 19-14, and Waco La Vega, 13-6. Bonham will take on Raymondville in the first round of the Division II championship bracket.


Celina lost to Mexia, 22-14, but beat Worthing and Glen Rose in Pool J. The Bobcats will take on Marion to start championship bracket action.


Melissa beat Pleasanton, 56-35, and routed Texarkana Pleasant Grove, 60-13 before losing to Stephenville to finish as Pool I runner-up. The Cardinals open bracket play against Sunnyvale.
