AUSTIN — Honey Grove senior Diavian Shaw closed out her high school career as part of Honey Grove’s large contingent at the Class 2A state track meet at Mike A. Myers Stadium on Saturday.


Shaw finished seventh in the Class 2A triple jump by clearing 35 feet, five and a quarter inches, although she passed on her final two jumps and a chance to improve her placement as part of the Lady Warriors 400 relay. Refugio’s Alexa Valenzuela won the title at 39 feet and a quarter inch.


She teamed with freshman Azia Brigham and sophomores Za-Naysha Hosuton and Tionna Cooper on that relay which placed eighth with a time of 50.45 seconds.


The quartet was seventh in the 800 relay with a time of 1:47.33. Shiner took the gold in 1:43.64.


Cooper then finished ninth in the 200 meter dash in 26.45 seconds. Valenzuela won gold in 25.20 seconds.


Junior Amelia Butler placed ninth in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:35.26. Shelbyville’s Kenna Osby won the title in 2:21.17.


Running races


Callisburg’s Skylar Allen was fifth in the Class 3A 400 with a time of 59.45 seconds. La Marque’s Jackeria Woodkins won the gold in 56 seconds.


Blue Ridge senior Jacob Stroup placed fifth in the Class 2A 110 hurdles with a time of 14.91 seconds. Valley View’s Cale Kassen won gold in 13.91 seconds and would have broken the old 2A mark of 14.14 but was wind-aided.


Celina sophomore Hannah Thompson finished sixth in the Class 4A 800 with a time of 2:23.73. Llano’s Anna Casey won gold in 2:12.90. She then placed ninth in the 1,600 with a time of 6:02.45. Casey won that race with a time of 5:07.60.


Tioga sophomore Carly Hough placed eighth in the Class 1A 100 meter dash with a time of 12.88 seconds. Burkeville’s Keyunce Price won the gold at 12.39 seconds.


Pilot Point junior Savanna Hodnett placed ninth in the Class 3A 100 hurdles with a time of 15.56 seconds. White Oak’s Kinsey Smith won the gold in 14.35 seconds.


The Van Alstyne 1,600 relay team of Jake Carroll, George Hall, Cameron Montgomery and Samuel Tormos placed sixth in the Class 3A race with a time of 3:25.65.


The Pottsboro 1,600 relay team of Jared Miller, Luke Miller, Alex Esparza and Ezra Fritts was ninth in the Class 3A race with a time of 3:27.48. Yoakum won the gold at 3:21.90.


Jump around


Fannindel junior Maya Caesar was fourth on tie-breakers in the Class 1A high jump by clearing five feet. Aquilla’s Rylee Henning won the gold on tie-breakers over Blum’s Gentrye Munden by matching the 1A record of five feet, four inches.


Blue Ridge senior Marlaina Morgan placed fifth in the Class 2A pole vault by clearing a personal 11 feet. Woodsboro’s Skylar Hall won on tie-breakers at 12 feet.


Whitewright sophomore Jace Andrew finished fifth in the Class 3A long jump at 22 feet and three quarters of an inch. He was two and a quarter inches from getting onto the podium. Yoakum’s Joshua Moore won at 23 feet, two and three quarter inches.


Howe sophomore Ally Harvey was sixth in the Class 3A high jump by clearing five feet, two inches. Early’s Trinity Tomlinson won at five feet, seven inches.


Blue Ridge sophomore Skylar Gerner finished sixth in the Class 2A triple jump by clearing 35 feet, nine inches. Valenzuela won the title at 39 feet and a quarter inch.


Savoy junior Devin Smith was seventh in the Class 1A long jump by clearing 20 feet, three inches. Cross Plains’ Creed Goode won the gold with a 1A record leap of 22 feet, eight and a quarter inches.


Going the distance


Pilot Point senior Connor Walker was ninth in the Class 3A 3,200 with a time of 10:04.72. Luling’s Buster Roberts won in 9:41.96.


Throw it around


Collinsville senior Dylan Kays was sixth in the Class 2A shot put with a throw of 49 feet, two inches. Granger’s Ryan Pickett won the gold at 52 feet, five and three quarter inches.


Whitewright junior Seth Jackson was ninth in the Class 3A shot put with a throw of 47 feet, two and a quarter inches. Falfurrias’ Marco Arevalo won with a throw of 59 feet, three inches.


S&S junior Hailey Petty was ninth in the Class 3A discus with a throw of 95 feet, six inches. Goliad’s Ashlyn Davis won with a throw of 130 feet.


Wolfe City senior Bowie Tanner finished ninth in the Class 2A discus throw at 142 feet, five inches. Sundown’s Bryce Spencer was the state champion with a throw of 174 feet, six inches.
